[p]RESIDENT ASSHOLE
Planet
Planets are solid bodies that
are smaller than stars and unlike stars, planets do not produce their
own heat and light. Planets can be seen because the light from the
sun reflects off of them. There are nine planets that orbit the star
of the solar system we live in. Only six planets are bright enough
to be seen from Earth without a telescope: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter,
Saturn, and Uranus. The temperature, atmosphere, surface, length of
days and nights differ on each planet. The planet we live on, Earth,
is the only planet known to support life yet the ability for the Earth
to support all living creatures is in jeopardy. Global warming, destruction
of the ozone layer, rising ocean levels, depleting supplies of fresh
water, deforestation, and soil erosion are adversely affecting life
on Earth and contributing to the largest-scale extinction since the
time of the dinosaurs.
